Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming the job landscape, and this change has begun to be explicitly recognized by the CEOs of some of the most relevant tech companies.
Companies like Shopify, Fiverr, and Duolingo have issued memos to their employees urging the effective adoption of AI, emphasizing that the incorporation of these tools is essential and that, in the future, they will reduce hiring for tasks that can be automated.
Tobi Lütke, CEO of Shopify, recently informed his team that the effective use of AI is now an essential expectation. He emphasized that before considering expanding the workforce, all available options offered by artificial intelligence should be explored.

For his part, Micha Kaufman from Fiverr has also conveyed a clear message about the importance of adapting one’s skills to this trend.
Likewise, Luis von Ahn, leader of Duolingo, emphasized his company’s intention to be “AI-first”, arguing that AI is already redefining how work is done and that waiting is not an option. However, he assured that his approach does not seek to replace employees, but rather to optimize their work by allowing technology to eliminate bottlenecks.
Despite concerns about automation and job loss —it is predicted that 83 million jobs will be lost in the next five years while 69 million will be created—, several studies indicate that workers are beginning to show renewed optimism about their job future.
Historically, technology has created more jobs than it has eliminated, although the current balance seems to be tipping towards a net loss of positions.
With industry leaders like Mark Zuckerberg and Jensen Huang suggesting that much of the code could be written by AI in the near future, the debate over the relevance of human skills in programming intensifies, which could lead to a significant change in professional training and the dynamics of the labor market.
